You can call them tool boxes, truck tool boxes, pickup tool boxes, or tool storage boxes.  Whatever you choose to call them, everybody needs one!  Nearly everyone that drives a pickup has a large box mounted sideways across the bed up behind the cab.  It attaches to the bed and opens from either side.  By mounting these up front, it allows the rest of the bed to be used for whatever you're hauling. 

In addition to this standard much larger box, there are also boxes that fit beneath your fifth wheel in your pick-up bed.  Or around the hitch of your camper.  There are a variety of boxes that attach to the side of the pickup bed as well, for easy access to the whole box.  They also can be mounted in the truck bed wheel wells or on the top of bed rail.  The wonder is that not only have they provided a larger more sturdy tool box for you, but taken the time to figure out ways to keep it out of your way.  Or to fill in odd or empty spaces. 

Semi drivers certainly have seen improvements as well - I mean just look at what has been attached to the top and back of those cabs.  In addition, there are also tool boxes that can be mounted behind the cabs, much taller than those in the pickup bed, and easily accessible from either side.  They also have come up with steps tool boxes, that provide steps for access up to the deck, which open up for storage.  A great idea for tools, oil and other lubricants, ropes and hooks, and whatever!

The tool boxes come in a variety of sturdy materials, from tool storage boxes to heavy duty plastic and steel boxes.  All are built tough to withstand the pounding they are likely to take in the back of your truck.  More good thinking by the box builders.  There are a number of excellent manufacturers out there, as well as webstores that sell them, so take some time and check out what's out there for you!  It's guaranteed to be money well spent!
